How to play

Four words coil into one loop. It takes about a minute to learn, and the loop adds one clever twist on top. Here's all of it.

1The shape

Every puzzle is four words arranged clockwise around a loop. Each side of the loop is one word, with its own quirky clue. Solve them one side at a time.

Read clockwise: POST → TRAP → PREY → YELP → back to POST

Every tile here is green because this is the solved loop, with every tile correctly placed. Follow the arrows: the bottom and left words trail backwards as you scan the grid flat, because the loop curves around. The ringed corners are the letters two words share.

2Last letter feeds the next

Here's the loop part: each word's last letter is the next word's first letter. POST ends in T… so TRAP begins with T. That letter lives in a single shared corner tile that belongs to both words: the gold-ringed corners above.

Go all the way around and the last word's final letter loops back to where the first word started. The snake bites its own tail.

3Guess the word

Type a guess for the side you're on and the tiles tell you how close you are:

Gold: this letter's in the word, but somewhere else.

Red: not in this word at all.

So a guess might come back like this:

4The corner twist

This is the one new rule. When you solve a side, its shared corner locks into place for the next word, already filled in for you. So you type the next word without that leading letter.

Say you've just solved POST. Its final T is the first letter of TRAP, and it's already locked in. So for TRAP, you don't type the T:

Tip: if a word feels one letter too long, check the corner; its first letter is probably already on the board.

5Close the loop

Solve all four sides and the loop closes: the last word's tail meets the first word's head, the serpent seals shut, and the day's puzzle is done.

Then you can share your result as the loop's shape (colored squares, never the answers), so you can brag without spoiling it for anyone.

6A few extras
